FAQs

Answers, without the guesswork.

Pipebudi is designed to deliver always-on leak defence: listening for abnormal flow, watching for freezing conditions, and helping you shut off water fast when it matters most.

Tip: this filters questions on the page. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Installation

Valve-mounted
What does Pipebudi install on? Open

Pipebudi sits on your main water valve and monitors flow behaviour at the source. One device is designed to cover the whole property by controlling that main shut-off point.

Do I need a plumber to install it? Open

Many customers can install with basic tools, but if your valve is in a tight space, older, or difficult to access, a plumber can make setup faster and safer. If you’re unsure, we recommend professional installation.

Will it work with my type of main valve? Open

Pipebudi is designed for common residential main shut-off valves. If you have a non-standard setup (commercial manifolds, unusual valve geometry, or restricted access), contact support with a photo of your valve area and we’ll advise.

Leak detection

Always-on
How does Pipebudi detect a leak? Open

It monitors abnormal flow patterns from the main valve position. When Pipebudi detects behaviour that matches a likely leak scenario, it can alert you and (if enabled) close the valve automatically.

Will it shut off water every time it sees something unusual? Open

No — you’re in control. Pipebudi can be configured to alert-only, or to automatically shut off in high-confidence scenarios. You can also remotely open/close the valve in the app.

What happens if a leak occurs while I’m away? Open

You’ll receive an alert, and you can take action remotely. If automatic shut-off is enabled, Pipebudi can close the main valve quickly to reduce damage and prevent a large-scale incident.

Freeze guard

Winter-ready
What is “Freeze Guard”? Open

Pipebudi monitors for freezing risk conditions and can warn you early so you can protect pipework before it becomes a burst-pipe emergency.

Can it help prevent burst pipes? Open

It’s designed to reduce risk by alerting you to freezing conditions early. Always follow local guidance on winterising and pipe protection for best results.

App & alerts

Control anywhere
Can I control the valve remotely? Open

Yes. The app is designed to let you open or close the main valve from anywhere, and view important status updates at a glance.

What kinds of alerts will I receive? Open

You can expect clear, action-focused alerts related to abnormal flow, shut-off events, and freezing risk. Notification options depend on your device settings and app permissions.

Support

Here to help
What should I do if I need help with setup? Open

Contact support with your valve type (or a photo), your property type, and any installation constraints. We’ll guide you through the safest setup path.

Is there a maintenance routine? Open

We recommend periodically checking access around the main valve, ensuring connectivity is stable, and reviewing alert settings—especially before winter and before extended trips away.
